From Sücka we take a beautiful mountain path towards the ridge along the Rappenstein (2222 metres above sea level), admiring the landscape. Before the path ascends to the Rappenstein, we hasten on a narrow path down to Alp Gapfahl and cross steep pastures. From Gapfahl we start the ascent to the Pfälzer Hut via the Undersäss. At the idyllic hut we sate our hunger and quench our thirst, while enjoying the breath-taking and panoramic views. Following the break, we follow a narrow hiking trail over the Malbuner Täli and stride down to Malbun at an altitude of 1600 metres above sea level. From the Pfälzer hut the tour can also be continued in the direction of the Mannheimer hut.

Alternative route:
The second day can be shortened by spending the night at the Pfälzer Hut, from where you can also detour to the Naafkopf (2570 metres above sea level) the next day (additional altitude difference: 462 metres) before hiking back to Malbun.

Hikers who are in very good physical condition are recommended to continue the tour to the summit of the Rappenstein (additional altitude difference: 151 metres) and then walk back towards Gapfahl.

Hikers who are in very good condition can also take the route via Augstenberg and the Sareiserjoch back to Malbun. The 2-day tour can also be completed in reverse sequence from Malbun. This is less demanding in terms of fitness.

Author’s recommendation

Stay overnight in the Pfälzer hut and enjoy the sight of a fabulous sunrise the next day.
